At 13:10 on April 24, with the successful completion of the turnout laying and connection at Golmud River Block Post of Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the newly-built Golmud-Korla Railway has formally connected with Qinghai-Tibet Railway, laying a solid foundation for the opening-to-traffic of Golmud-Korla Railway (Qinghai Section) on schedule.
Located 7.3km southwest of Golmud Station on Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Golmud River Block Post is an important link connecting Qinghai-Tibet Railway with the newly-built Golmud-Korla Railway. In view of the fact that this turnout laying and connection work involves train reception and departure in many directions, China Railway Qinghai-Tibet Group Co., Ltd. has carefully worked out the construction plan and adopted a series of measures to ensure smooth construction and safety of train reception and departure in multiple directions.
"Since the resumption of work, all construction participants of Golmud-Korla Railway have strictly implemented the epidemic prevention and control requirements of government authorities at all levels, worked out and improved the epidemic prevention and control plans. They have made plans ahead of time, pushed forward the construction orderly, and adopted a series of measures to make up the construction progress lagged due to the epidemic, providing a strong guarantee for the opening-to-traffic of Golmud-Korla Railway (Qinghai Section) on schedule." Said by Ju Bangqiang, Director of Engineering Department of Golmud-Korla Railway Construction Directorate.
The Qinghai Section of Golmud-Korla Railway is scheduled to open to traffic at the end of June this year, while the Xinjiang Section is expected to be put into operation at the end of the year. By then, the travel time from Golmud to Korla will be shortened from 26 hours to about 12 hours. Golmud-Korla Railway is a railway resembling the ethnic solidarity. Its opening-to traffic is of great significance in promoting the resource development and poverty alleviation in regions along the railway, increasing the economic and trade exchanges between Qinghai and Xinjiang, strengthening the unity of regions inhabited by ethnic minority groups, and serving the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
