Since the outbreak of the epidemic, resolutely implementing the CPC Central Committee and the State Council's decision and deployment on stabilizing the foreign trade, CHINA RAILWAY has given full play to the role of the CRE trains as a strategic corridor, strengthened their operation organization, made every effort to undertake the freight sources shifted from air and sea transport, and gave priority to the transportation of epidemic prevention supplies required for international cooperation. It has realized the growth of the CRE train traffic, and actively contributed to stabilizing foreign trade against the epidemic.
According to an official of the freight department of CHINA RAILWAY, in April this year, the total trips, departure trips and return trips of CRE trains have all set a monthly record. In April, the CRE trains had run 979 trips in total, transporting 88,000 TEUs of cargoes, up 46% and 50% year-on-year respectively, with an overall loaded container rate of 97.8%. Among these trips, 589 (53,000 TEUs) are departure trips, up 65% (68%) year-on-year, with a loaded container rate of 99.9%, 390 (35,000 TEUs) are return trips, up 24% (29%) year-on-year, with a loaded container rate of 94.7%.
From January to April of this year, CRE trains had operated 2,920 trips in total, dispatching 262,000 TEUs of cargoes, up 24% and 27% year-on-year respectively, with an overall loaded container rate of 98%. Among these trips, 1638 (148,000 TEUs) are departure trips, up 36% (40%) year-on-year, with a loaded container rate of 99.9%, 1282 (114,000 TEUs) are return trips, up 11% (14%) year-on-year, with a loaded container rate of 95.5%. In particular, since the outbreak of the epidemic, CRE train traffic has achieved a growth against the trend.
The official stressed that the stably operated CRE trains have become an important transportation corridor connecting China, Europe and countries along the routes of the Belt and Road Initiative during the epidemic prevention period, and become an important support for stabilizing the international supply chain in this special period. Compared with air and sea transport, CRE trains have unique advantages in segmented transportation and no personnel quarantine. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, CHINA RAILWAY has made every effort to undertake the freight sources shifted from air and sea transport. It has strengthened the train operation organization and improved its support capacity to actively stabilize the international supply chain. It has dispatched special working groups at the railway ports to guide the operation of the port stations on the spot. It has taken CRE trains as the focus in the daily transportation organization, giving priority to them in loading and unloading, coupling transportation and handover. It has kept close communication with the railways of the countries along the routes, strengthened the international cooperation, jointly organized simplified customs clearance with customs authorities, and thus ensuring the safe and smooth operation of this strategic corridor.
The official said that the growth of CRE trains against the epidemic has contributed China's strength to the global fight against the epidemic. At present, the epidemic in Europe is still severe. The demands for living and epidemic prevention supplies there are strong, and many supplies are transported by CRE trains. CHINA RAILWAY has attached great importance to this issue. It has made special deployment to incorporate international cooperative epidemic prevention supplies into the key guarantee transportation, ensuring that all supplies can be transported. Since the first CRE train carrying epidemic prevention supplies exported to Europe set off from Yiwu on March 21, by the end of April CRE trains have taken 660,000 pieces (3142 tons) of epidemic prevention supplies for international cooperation to Italy, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Netherlands, Lithuania and other countries, where these supplies were then distributed to more European countries, thus effectively promoting international anti-epidemic cooperation.
